PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

(Cont.)

Northeast Ohio Natural Gas, Pleasantville, OH 43148

Operations Engineer, July 2012 – December 2012

·         Assign and create capital job orders and estimate their material, cost, and duration.  Analyze and design jobs that compliment system integrity.  Design efficient, cost-effective town border stations.   Design commercial meter settings.  Research products and meet with suppliers.  Install service lines and hang meters.

·         As an Operations Engineer, I was able to experience a part of the gas industry that I had not yet been exposed to.  I was trained to design natural gas stations and settings, and to imagine unique solutions to the wide range of problems involved in that process.  I also had the opportunity to work in the field installing gas service lines and hanging meters.  This hands-on experience has given me a unique perspective into the day-today challenges faced by field crews, and is all part of my desire to grow as a professional.

Columbia Gas of Ohio, Zanesville, OH

Field Engineer 1, February 2011 – July 2012

Engineering Technician, May 2008 – February 2011

·         Create capital job orders and estimate their costs and durations.  Analyze and design jobs that compliment system integrity, are cost effective, and can be constructed efficiently.  Coordinate with Construction Services, New Business, Land Services and Scheduling to help achieve the best results for the company.  Uphold cooperative working relationships with other companies and municipalities to maintain a positive image of the company.

·         Through my time with Columbia Gas, I have achieved many steps in personal growth and an ever-growing knowledge of the gas industry.  I enjoy taking advantage of all the learning opportunities that come my way whether it be a training course or advise from a colleague. I enjoyed this position, but I also long for new challenges.  That is why I continue to strive to expand my horizons as a professional.

Engineered Retaining Systems, Knoxville, TN

Foreman/Project Engineer, August 2007 – May 2008

·         Manage crews of 5 to 14 employees, Conduct site layout and oversee wall construction, Inventory onsite materials, Place orders for materials, Evaluate the project’s progress and set daily and weekly production goals for crews, Coordinate jobsite setup, excavation activities, and infrastructure installation with other contractors,  Keep a daily log of activities,  Operate machinery.

·         A typical day for me starts with a safety meeting, explaining the day’s goals, and the ordering of materials.  Next, I lay out the wall and give my excavation crew their elevations.  As the wall goes up, I ensure that every activity is value-added and that the quality of installation is satisfactory.  It is a highly demanding position with a great amount of responsibility, and it has given me a new level of work ethic and a better understanding of the construction industry.

Ohio Department of Transportation, Marietta, OH

Project Inspector, Summer 2005, 2006

·     Monitored the progress of contractors on state funded jobs, Inspected contractors’ work making sure it met state regulations, Assessed construction plans for errors, Calculated and monitored quantities of pay items.

·     Most of my experience is with slip repair and highway jobs.  I checked elevations during excavation and filling, and performed compaction tests on the fill.  I have overseen the installation of drainage tiles, and the setup and maintenance of traffic control devices.  I have also overseen storm pipe installation, box culvert repair and installation, and blasting.  However, one of the main tools I gained from this job was how to work closely with people from multiple organizations to achieve a common goal.
